Transaction Categories

  • Hiro supports transaction categorization to help you better understand your spending.
  • All new users have a basic set of categories to choose from. You can create custom categories as needed.
  • Hiro automatically categorizes transactions from your connected accounts and supports recategorization as needed.

How do I change a category?

Hiro can help you recategorize transactions directly in chat with a confirmation step, or you can manually change them by:

  1. Open the transaction details
  2. Click the current category
  3. Select a new category
  4. Choose whether to update similar transactions

What happens when I change a category?

  • The transaction is immediately updated
  • Hiro looks for similar transactions
  • You can choose to update all similar transactions at once
  • Hiro learns from your changes to improve future categorizations

Can I change pending transactions?

No, only posted transactions can be recategorized.

What are the category types?

  • Income (wages, bonuses)
  • Expenses (shopping, dining, travel)
  • Transfers (account transfers, withdrawals)

What if I make a mistake?

You can always change the category again.

How do I create a new category?

There are two ways to create and modify custom categories:

  • Navigate to the "Custom Categories" section in the "Settings" tab to create and manage custom categories
  • When recategorizing a transaction, you can create a new category on the fly by selecting "Add new" in the category dropdown
